Having a baby prematurely is the fear of any pregnant woman. Resuscitation, it is not clear what will happen to the physical and mental health of the baby. Why do babies ask to be born early?

About this on the eve of the international day of premature babies, which is celebrated on November 17, told obstetrician-gynecologist NMITs obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology named after. IN AND. Kulakov of the Ministry of Health of Russia Nana Tetruashvili:

Why are premature babies born? There is still no clear answer to this question. There can be many reasons: inflammatory processes, infections, a special condition of the cervix, injuries, operations, benign tumors (uterine fibroids), stress. A special risk group is expectant mothers with repeated interruptions of previous pregnancies and premature births in the past. In such women, the risk of subsequent preterm birth increases several times. Diseases that are not directly related to the female reproductive system, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, kidney disease, heart disease, and systemic connective tissue diseases, also have an impact. And, of course, those mothers who are carrying twins or twins should be very sensitive to their health. In multiple pregnancies, most births are premature.

To avoid complications, it is necessary to start with preconception preparation. Examination of future parents before the onset of pregnancy allows you to identify and cure existing disorders. The doctor will prescribe the necessary studies – smears, ultrasound, blood tests for hormones, determination of glucose, hemoglobin and iron levels, spermogram of the spouse. This is the necessary minimum that will allow you to eliminate obvious problems, and if they exist, to carry out a correction. Much depends on nutrition, lifestyle, excess or lack of body weight. But most of the violations can be eliminated before pregnancy, which will ensure its more favorable course.

If pregnancy has already occurred, there is a certain system of measures to prevent premature birth:

  • taking vitamins;
  • timely completion of all screening studies;
  • treatment of threatened miscarriage if bleeding occurs;
  • in women at risk, the length of the cervix is measured using ultrasound from the 16th to the 25th week of pregnancy for the timely correction of isthmic-cervical insufficiency.

If the threat of preterm birth still arose, hospitalization in a level III hospital (perinatal center) is necessary, where there are all the possibilities for careful delivery and nursing of a premature baby.
