If everyone knows about the dangers of nicotine and smoking is becoming unfashionable today, then vapes, which are positioned as safe analogues of cigarettes, are still popular. Moreover, vapers are often people who want to quit smoking.
How safe are vapor inhalation devices and what are the first signs of health problems in a vaper?
told about this therapist Natalya Prosyannikova.
“The first warning symptom is increased salivation and dry mouth. This is the body’s reaction to heavy metals. Aerosols of electronic cigarettes in particular contain nickel and lead, which damage not only the respiratory, but also the nervous, endocrine, digestive, cardiovascular and excretory systems.
Often “vapers” complain of headaches, dizziness, memory impairment, decreased concentration, emotional and other disorders – irritability, aggression, depression, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain. If you have recently started using vaping and have not encountered such problems before, then you should put the device aside and observe your well-being, perhaps the reason is precisely in this habit.
Why are vapes dangerous?
“Although there is more and more information about devices for inhaling steam every year, their effect on the body has not been fully studied,” explains endocrinologist Arseniy Rusanov. “Because the flavorings found in vape liquids make it easier to smoke, a person who is hooked on vaping uses it more often, which puts more stress on the body.”
It is known that the liquids of vape systems include propylene glycol, glycerin, nicotine, diacetyl, aromatic additives, and when steam is inhaled, heavy metal ions — tin, nickel, and others — enter the body. Many of them adversely affect the endocrine system. For example, pentabromodiphenyl ethers, which are responsible for keeping the device cool, interfere with the production of thyroid hormones that regulate the functioning of the heart and brain.
In addition, the abuse of vaping can lead to a decrease in the level of the male hormone testosterone and a decrease in sperm count. The negative impact of steam vape systems on the female reproductive system was also revealed, especially during pregnancy.
Vapes are especially dangerous for children and teenagers. Flavorings and heavy metals have a carcinogenic effect on the endocrine glands – hormones with high biological activity that ensure the processes of growth, development, reproduction, adaptation, and behavior. In adolescence, when the body is still growing, this is highly undesirable.
The vapor generated when smoking electronic cigarettes or vapes contains more than 30 types of hazardous substances. One of them – propylene glycol – can accumulate in the body, causing allergic reactions, suppurative processes, disruption of the liver and kidneys. During the thermal decomposition of propylene glycol and glycerin, the respiratory organs and the central nervous system are damaged, and mutagenic processes develop.
Vape smokers have an increased risk of addiction, including to other substances, such as alcohol. Flavorings can cause allergic reactions, up to the development of bronchial asthma.
Vaping significantly increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and cancer.
